Effect of storage temperature on weight loss, decay and germination of five potato tubers cultivars used for fall planting
1993
Matlob, A.N. (Ipa Agric. Res. Center (Iraq))
Five potato cultivars tubers (Thalasa, Clauster, Yasamina, Ozrena, Eriana) were stored at (5, 10, 15 D.C.) and room temperature (22-27 D.C.) for two months for all planting. It was found that storing at (5 D.C.) gave the lowest percentage of weight loss and decay. However, tubers stored at (15 D.C.) gave the highest percentage of germination, number of stems per plant and moderate infection with decay, tubers stored at room temperature gave highest percentage of weight loss and decay but lowest percentage of germination. There was no obvious differences between cultivars in percentage of weight loss, decay and number of stems per plant. However, Thalasa and Clauster cultivars gave the highest percentage of germination. It is suggested to store potato tuber seed at (15 D.C.) and using Thalasa and Clauster cultivars for fall planting.
