[Bale silage preparation: experience and practice]

On 23 farms 39 samples of bale silage of different botanical composition and moisture content have been analysed. Results of the analyses are discussed. The chemical and biological processes in bale-silage conservation are explained, the silage quality is compared with that made by other technologies. The experience and practice of bale-silage preparation in Latvia as well as the advantages of this technology are described. The conditions required for bale-silage preparation are defined. Economic considerations are presented. It is pointed out that the technology is new, not fully acquired and rather expensive.
