In vitro determination of the anticoagulant property of the polysaccharide extract from taingan daga (Auricularia auricula Hook. Family Auriculariaceae)
1995
Calumpang, A.L.
Findings of the study revealed the following: 1.) The polysaccharide extract isolated from Taingan Daga is a mixture of two polysaccharides namely, xylan and glycogen. The xylan is the natural form of the sugar xylose. The presence of this sugar has been detected by thin layer chromatography. The presence of glycogen has been determined by specific chemical qualitative tests and affirmed by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometry; 2) Close similarities in structure are present in both heparin sodium and the polysaccharide extract from Taingan Daga. This conclusion was drawn based on the results of FTIR on both solution; 3) The xylan and glycogen together exert an anticoagulant action on blood. The mixture of these two polysaccharides had positively delayed clotting of blood using the test tube method; and 4) The ratio strength at which the polysaccharide extract best shows its anticoagulant action is 1:2, which means one part of the extract in the total number of two parts of the mixture
