Multiplication of sweet potato germplasm for on-farm trials using single node cutting

One of the limitations in germplasm evaluation is lack of planting materials, especially for early generation clones or newly acquired cultivars. The single node cutting technique was used to multiply over a hundred sweet potato accessions for post-rice on-farm variety trials at Kapangan, Benguet [Philippines]. The use of single node cuttings proved to be an efficient, easy and rapid method of multiplication. A creeping and bushy type of sweet potato cuttings can be multiplied six and ten times, respectively in two weeks, ready for transplanting. Within 45 days sufficient source of planting materials can be established, depending on the initial number of cuttings used.
