Training needs of members of farmers' associations in Mountain Province [Philippines]
1994
Wanawan, M.T. (Department of Agriculture, Guisad, Baguio City 2600 (Philippines). Cordillera Administrative Region)
Farmers' associations are institutional conduits for rural development so it would be unfair to ignore their educational needs. Obviously, they are our partners in carrying out rural development activities and they are plausibly capable if the members are motivated, properly guided and developed. Substantial motivation of these clientele groups and the provision of trainings and other educational services at the right time would help create an environment for the farmers to build their capabilities and increase their income. This research was conducted to obtain information and insights as basis for development agencies and trainers to come up with a more responsive and comprehensive training agenda for the farmers in the study area. The data were gathered with the use of structured and unstructured questionnaire and the respondents were chosen through simple random sampling. Results revealed that the concerned farmers not only needed trainings on commodity production aspects but also along the areas of project planning and management, resource conservation (soil and forest) and institutional development
