Effect of seed aging on time to emergence, percent emergence, radicle growth and ion leakage was determined in cucumber seed aging from 1, 5, 10 and 15 year. Seed aging up to 5 years showed increased time to radicle emergence and decreased percent emergence but did not affect growth of the radicle significantly. When seeds were more aged than 5 years, it also resulted in decreased growth of radicle. These changes are also accompanied by increase in ion leakage, indicating that aging in dry seeds involve damage to cellular membrane system.
