The experiment was conducted at Ornamental Horticultural Nursery NWFP Agricultural University, Peshawar during the year 1993. The performance of stem cutting of different rubber plant species viz; Ficus pumila, Ficus macrophylla, Ficus retusa and Ficus elastica was studied in the same soil mixture containing sand + clay + FYM (1:1:1). The evaluation was based on plant survival, plant height, number of leaves/cutting, number of roots/cutting and root length. Almost all the parameters were affected by the species of rubber plant under agroclimatic conditions of Peshawar. Among the species used, Ficus pumila and Ficus macrophylla gave better results as compared to Ficus retusa, whereas Ficus elastica completely failed in the trial. Maximum plant survival (53%) was observed for Ficus pumila followed by Ficus retusa (45%). Highest plant height (63 cm) and number of leaves/cutting (58) were also recorded for Ficus pumila, followed by Ficus macrophylla i.e 24 cm and 16 cm respectively. Ficus macrophylla gave the maximum number of roots/cutting (10)and root length (98 cm) followed by Ficus pumila, i.e, 9 and 97 cm respectively.
