Pleurotus spp. of mushrooms were grown on substrates like wheat straw, sugarcane bagasse, corn cobs, sawdust and in soil. Results indicated that the yield ranged 18.50-432.8g/2kg substrate. Significantly higher produce was obtained from wheat straw, followed by sugarcane bagasse, corn cobs and sawdust, while control treatment gave the lower yield. Results indicated highly significant difference in the mean values of substrates at 5%. Significant effect of growth media was also observed on the chemical constituents of mushrooms. Pleurotus florida exhibited higher amounts of crude protein, fat, fibre and ascorbic acid contents than Pleurotus ostreatus.
