Of the 58 ricefield plants evaluated as hosts to Cicadulina bipunctata, only 22 grasses were found to be oviposited on. However, 17 Poaceae supported complete development of the pest. The order of host preference was corn Paspalum paspalodes Paspalidium flavidum Brachiaria distachya Echinochloa glabrescens. Neither broadleaves nor sedges were accepted as ovipositional host or complete host by the insect pest. C. bipunctata developed on both rice and corn. Its incubation period lasted for 7.5 days (d) on both the host plants. The nymphs passed five nymphal instars in 16.6 d on rice and relatively shorter on corn plant in 11.1 d. The nymphs ranged from 0.6 mm to 2.1 mm in length. On both host plants, females lived longer than males. A female can lay as many as 15.3 eggs on rice and as many as 729 eggs on corn in her lifetime of 14.0 d. Female adults of C. bipunctata were relatively larger (2.8 mm) than their males (2.5 mm)
