Effect of fertilizer rates and sowing methods on the fodder yield of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench cv. Gaza-3)

Sorghum cultivar Gaza-3 was subjected to 4 fertilizer treatments and two sowing methods to evaluate its fodder yield potential under D.I. Khan conditions during the year 1986-87. The experiment was laid out in split plot design having four replications. A basal dose of 100 kg per hectare of P2O5 in the form of single super phosphate was applied into the soil before sowing. Half of nitrogen dose was applied at the time of sowing while the remaining half was applied 45 days later as a second dose. Nitrogen was applied in the form of urea. All the yield components such as number of internodes, plant height, green fodder, and days to heading completion gave maximum response to 200 kg N/hectare. Pora method of sowing gave better results than broadcast cultivation.
