Laboratory investigations were carried out on some soil properties of paddy soils of Dera Ismail Khan district. Thirty surface (0-25 cm) soil samples were collected, 19 along the Chashma road, and 11 along the Paroa road. All soils were moderately to strongly calcareous (8.3 to 15.23 % line content) having alkaline reaction. Organic matter in all the soil samples was very low (0.43 to 0.67 %). The levels of extractable P and micronutrients (An, Cu, Fe, and Mn) were higher along the Paroa road than along the Chashma road. Large variations in the soil test values of different soil properties were observed. The highest coefficient of variation (about 89%) was found for electrical conductivity along the Paroa road, and the lowest (about 2%) for soil pH along the Chashma road. Correlation studies showed that clay content had significant positive correlation with extractable K (r=0.58), Cu (0.58), Fe (0.48) and Mn (0.53) along the Chashma road, while significant positive r-values were observed for extractable Cu and Fe (r=0.74), Mn and Fe (r=0.83), and lime content and Zn (r=0.62). Geostatistical technique of semivariogram analysis showed that soil pH, extractable K, and clay content were spatially distributed along both the roads. Extractable Cu was also spatially distributed along the Paroa road.
