Czyz, E. | Tomaszewska, J. (Instytut Uprawy, Nawozenia i Gleboznawstwa, Pulawy (Poland))
In field experiments on heavy loam 5 levels of soil compaction were obtained by different numbers of tractor wheel passages during traditional pre-sowing soil cultivation. Spring barley was a test crop to study the effect of soil compaction on plant growth. Number of wheel passages significantly affected the density of surface soil, planting depth, number of seedlings and yields of spring barley. The optimum density of heavy loam for spring barley growth was found to be 1.54-1.58 Mg/cu.m
