Release and transformations of mineral nitrogen in hydrogenic soils

Drainage of hydrogenic soils increases organic matter mineralization followed by the release of mineral nitrate- and ammonium nitrogen. During vegetation season in Polish conditions the quantity of released mineral N varies from tens to over 1000 kg/ha. The mineralization rate, clearly differentiated in particular prognostic soil moisture complexes (PSMC), is next modified by the manner of utilization, fertilization and irrigation. Intensive mineralization decreases soil thickness, increases nitrate content in ground water and nitrogen losses. Control and limitation of this process according to given recommendations are important
