Crop-animal interactions in relation to sorghum, millets and oilseed systems are examined. Availability of land resources, food, feed, and fodder for human and livestock is discussed. Livestock farming and feeding systems are identified. Use of grains, fodder, straws or stover from sorghum, and other millets is reviewed. Treatment of these with urea and ammonia, and supplementation with oil cakes, to improve their digestibility and availability of nutrients is suggested. High tannin content in sorghum affects its use as an alternate to maize in poultry feeds. The availability of oilseed cakes and their use in animal feeding are also discussed. The need to develop simple and cost-effective technologies for removing the toxic and antinutritional factors in nonconventional protein feeds is emphasized. Mixed farming and specialized dairying have shown higher profits in crop agriculture in small farm holdings. Strengthening of animal husbandry on drylands as an alternative to crop farming is also suggested
