This paper deals with results obtained in a greenhouse experiment carried out on a soil material from Ap horizon of the brown-reddish soil using different N as NO3- fertilization (1 and 3 g N/pot), without and with 1 ppm Mo. Seven sun-flower hybrids (Festiv, F 206, HS 1248, HS 1760, HS 1764, Florom 328, Extra) were tested. The "a" chlorophyll content of F 206 and Florom 328 hybrids was significantly reduced by N over-fertilization. Mo fertilization increased "a" chlorophyll content in F 206, HS 1248, Florom 328 and Extra hybrids. The N and Mo treatments didn't modify the "a" chlorophyll content of HS 1764 hybrid. The changes of "b" chlorophyll and carotenoid pigment contents were produced at same hybrids and in the same sense but only at 1/3 of the "a" chlorophyll intensity. The plants manifested typical symptoms of induced molybdenum deficiency and had contents less than 4 micrograms/ml in "a" chlorophyll, 1.1 microgram/ml in "b" chlorophyll and 1.4 micrograms/ml in carotenoid pigments. The HS 1760 and HS 1764 hybrids have the highest nitratreductase activity, probably geneticcally obtained. They have a high capacity for nitrates metabolisation.
