This paper presents results obtained from research studies performed for several years in conditions of organo-chlorated insecticide wastes (HCH, DDT) that exist in the soils of a few great irrigation systems within the area of the Romanian Plain. At the same time, pollution degrees of HCH and DDT in the existing irrigation waters coming from Danube and the network of internal rivers were studied in the respective systems (Olt, Arges, Siret). The results obtained seem to indicate that the main factor for transport and accumulation of these organo-chlorated insecticide wastes in soils under irrigation regime is represented by rivers permanently polluted with such noxious substances. As a result, the soils from the irrigation systems within the Romanian Plain are still polluted with large quantities of insecticide wastes that exceed the maximum allowable limit of 0.1 ppm.
