Biotechnology in sustained selection and breeding of garden plants

We improved quality of basic seed, and also shortened time necessary for breeding of new cultivars, using different plant biotechnology techniques. The rapid multiplication method we applied for micropropagation of shallot cv. Pohorka, for breeding programmes of pea and winter lettuce, and also for maintenance of selected chicory cv. Verona. Using techniques of somaclonal variation we expect to obtain an earlier type of pepper, somatic embryogenesis procedure was used for production of great number of selected pumpkin plants, and meristem culture was used for obtaining of pathogen-free bean plants cv. Zorin.
