[Effect of lung worm on clinical, haematological and biochemical constituents of infected sheep]

This research has been done to investigate the possibility of applying Haematological and Biochemical examinations for detecting early lung worm disease. Blood samples were collected from ten D. filaria infested sheep and ten clinically healthy sheep which were used as control. The infested animals were confirmed by filaria analysis. The total serum protein and serum albumin levels did not change in filaria infested animals. The total serum globulin was significantly elevated in all cases infested with lung worm. The albumin ratio significantly decreased in lungs damaged by parasitic infestation. The increased level of serum globulin reflects the response of immune system against the lung worm infestation. An increase in the number of eosion-philes occurred in diseased sheep.
