Study on species and abundance of natural organisms, feeding and growth of stocked fish in village fish pond project
1990
Suvena Banyen (Department of Fisheries, Bangkok (Thailand). National Inland Fisheries Inst.)
Study on species and abundance of natural food, a stomach content and growth of fish was made in three reservoirs located in the provinces of Surin, Nakhon Ratchasima and Nakhon Sawan. The fishes in these reservoirs were stocked under the village fish pond project. The results indicated that in all these reservoirs the water quality is poor; it is highly turbid, has low alkalinity and low hardness, which strongly suggest the need for better management. The quantity and quality of natural foods and fish species were low in all reservoirs. Many predators including carnivorous and omnivorous fishes were found in the reservoirs causing concern about the safety of fish fry stocked under the project. The major food in the stomach contents in fish caught from the reservoirs were algae and detritus of plants.
