Irrigation scheduling of alfalfa from the aspect of irrigation rate
1996
Bosnjak, Dj. | Pejic, B. (Poljoprivredni fakultet, Novi Sad (Yugoslavia))
In a four-year period of alfalfa exploitation, the irrigation increased hay yield by 62-69, higher than in previous periods, when a yield increase of about 50 was determinated. Water consumption for alfalfa evapotranspiration was at the same level in all the variants of the irrigation regardless of the irrigation rate. Optimum soil moisture is to be maintained to the minimum depth of 25 cm. In that depth it is indispensable to maintain permanent level of readily available water, and to apply corresponding irrigation schedule, particularly with center pivot or linear system, which are a self-mobile systems and can realize maximum irrigation rate of 20-30 mm, eventually 40 mm, on irrigation area of the Vojvodina Province (Yugoslavia) in one pass, depending on plot conditions and waterphysic characteristics of soil. Therefore, irrigation schedule should be adapted to the irrigation rate.
