In the experiment the following concentrations of heavy metals (Ni, Cd, Pb and Mo) were applied: 10** (-7) M, 10** (-5) M and 10** (-3) M. The mass of dry matter of the above-ground parts and roots was significantly reduced upon application of growing concentrations of all tested heavy metals, except Ni. Nitrate content in above-ground plant parts increased following augmentation in the concentration of tested elements, while it only slightly changed in roots. The total nitrogen content in the above-ground parts decreased, while in roots it remained at the level of the control following treatments with growing concentrations of Ni, Cd, Pb and Mo in soil. Tested heavy metals reduced the number of nodules. Intensity of this reduction depended simultaneously on the metal and concentration applied.
