The influence of several nutritive matters content in a soil of the marsh black-earth (humogley) type has been investigated with reference to yield and quality of various cultivars of sugar beet. The contents of accessible nutritive substances have been tested by the chemical extraction and EUF methods. The results of the soil survey are tabulated, as well as the review of relations between the contents of some nutritive substances in the soil at the start of the vegetation period, and the yield and quality values at the end. A firm causal dependence could be established only after investigations lasting many years.
