The effects of fertilizer application were studied for the contents of biogenic elements in soil and leaves of vegetable crops. The research was conducted in the Plain of the Zeta (Montenegro, Yugoslavia) and included 3 soil types (alluvial, brown shallow and brown very shallow ones) and three vegetable crops (tomato, pepper, watermelon). Studied soils were weakly alkaline, carbonic and humus, and they were well supplied with available P, K, Ca and Mn. Supply with available Fe, Zn, Mn, and Cu was favorable, but low with available B. Foliar diagnosis has not completely approved the status of biogenic elements in soil for P, K, Mg, Zn, and Mn. Further investigations should reveal the most favorable solutions for optimizing of fertilization with these elements. Adequate or high contents of nitrogen, especially the nitrate ones, have been established in vegetable leaves, what indicates the possibilities of nitrogen fertilizers decrease.
