Recently, Department of Forest Protection at the Faculty of Forestry in Belgrade (Yugoslavia) has initiated a study on the use of fungi in mistletoe biocontrol. The following fungi on mistletoe were observed: Phoma visci, Phomopsis sp., Phyllosticta visci, Sphaeropsis visci, Sclerophoma pythiophila, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Fusarium sambucinum, Trichoderma viride, Trichothecium roseum, Alternaria sp., Alternaria alternata, Aureobasidium pullulans, Cladosporium sp., Cladosporium herbarum, Epicoccum purpurascens, Sordaria fimicola and one bacterium of the genus Xanthomonas, which causes leaf spots. The research shows that, although these fungi occur frequently at some sites, they cannot destroy or control mistletoe by themselves. These biocontrol measures should be combined with other available measures.
