The influence of herbicide trifluralin on some chemical properties of water and mud in a drainage canal located in the northern part of Yugoslavia was studied. Under direct or indirect influence of herbicide trifluralin COD, electrical conductivity and total phosphorus content increased in relation to the control, which on the other hand has higher values for pH and dissolved oxygen content in relation to treatments with trifluralin. Trifluralin also exerted some influence on the chemical characteristics of mud in the investigated drainage canal. Nemely, under the influence of trifluralin corresponding samples of mud had lower (more negative) redox potential and higher content of organic matter and total nitrogen in relation to the control samples.
