The normal ultrastructure of ovarioles of previtellogenic females of Culex pipiens L. and the effect of gamma irradiation has been investigated. Before a blood meal and at all dose levels, ovarioles were small and shrinked. The total number of follicles was decreased. The germarium and follicles were sensitive to gamma-rays doses, vacuolization and degeneration of the cells were the most obvious signs of damage
