In glasshouse chrysanthemums, the efficacy of eight different pesticides for the control of the Western Flower Thrips was compared. The results show that only the first week after four successive sprayings the control yields a significantly higher number of thrips than the tested chemicals. One week later, two significant different groups were found. The first group with the higher numbers of thrips consists of the control, methomyl and mercaptodimethur. The second group with the lower number of thrips consists of abamectine, formetanaat, acefaat and some products which are not permitted in ornamental plants. These results suggest that a good control of WFT is possible with insecticides.
