Effect of the nutritional condition of cattle on the weight, thickness and quality of the hide

The experiments were carried out on Tartu Meat Processing Factory with salted hides of cattle. The aim of the experiments was to find out the effect of nutritional condition of the animals on the thickness and weight of the hide. The thickness was measured on the neck and rump. The animals were grouped into four classes on the basis of their nutritional condition. The results showed that the weight and the thickness of the hides of the cattle depended on the body weight but not on the nutritional condition. However, the quality of the hides of the animals of better nutritional condition was higher and the differences in the thickness of the hides on neck and rump were smaller
