Experiments were carried out to compare the ME-values of 3 different compound feeds for poultry, determined with different methods. The age of experimental animals resulted in significant differences in the apparent metabolisable energy corrected to zero N-balance (AMEn). The values determined with adults were on average 8.4 percent higher than those of young chicks. The differences between the true metabolisable energy, corrected to zero N-balance (TMEn) which were determined with the Sibbald method and the AMEn-values measured by ad libitum feeding were not significant in the case of the A and B diets. On the other hand TMEn of diet C, which was high in crude fibre, was significantly higher than its AMEn. The increased endogenous energy losses (EEL) in the ad libitum fed group seem to be the reason for it. Predicting the AMEn with regression equations resulted values which were close either to the determined values of chicks (A, B) or those of adult cockerels (C). The calculation of the ME-values of experimental diets from the ME-values of ingredients overestimated in every case the values which were determined with young chicks
