Qualitative development of the agricultural machinery system is the target to be set with respect to both functional and agrarian-branch based machinery systems, considering stock and efficiency of equipment of Hungarian agriculture, present situation of agricultural machinery construction, conditions of transforming agriculture and factors with an influence on the development of mechanization. Short and medium term development tasks could follow agriculture in transformation while on a longer term stabilized conditions would be considered. Recovery from the present situation requires that both acquisition and utilization (machine-groups, machinery co-operatives, extension service etc.) should be supported. Immediate development tasks of agricultural machinery construction are environment-friendly machines for nutrient application and plant protection for small farmers, complete range of small farming machinery for vegetable-, fruit- and grape production, machinery for subsistence farming, forage harvesting machines for small-scale cattle husbrandy. For the sake of sustainable development, more exactly for soil protection, first of all track-keeping tractors with suspended equipment and 10-14 meter width should be mentioned. Traditional technologies controlled by computers. High level technical background implies development of sensory technics. Sensors and data collectors planted on arable plots transmit information via satellites to various centers and the extension service. Robots for fruit harvesting, sorting and chemical residue control are feasible. Electronic animal identification is already widely possible in husbrandy. Biotechnology will require in all probability the development of new kind machinery. And over and above the outlined, it is also advisable to consider expansion of extensive farming practices and the requirements also
