Effect of land levelling and fertilization on saving in irrigation water and some physical and chemical properties of soils and on alfalfa yield

This experiment was carried out to determine the effect of land levelling on some physical and chemical properties of silty clay soil at Hammam Al-Alil and the possibility of reducing the effects of levelling by fertilization. The results indicated that saving in irrigation water achived by using land levelling reached (33.2). Organic matter and available phosphorus decreased, while clay content and bulk density increased by soil cutting. Planting and fertilization increased the organic matter content and available phosphorus and reduced the bulk density. The soil cut decreased alfalfa yield and the reduction of yield increased with the depth of cut. Productivity of cutted soil at 15 cm restored during the first year of land use by adding chemical and organic fertilizer
