An experiment was conducted to study the effect of progesterone supplementation on pregnancy rate and on progesterone concentrartionin milk and plasma of Friesian dairy cows. Progesterone concentrations in milk and plasma samples were determined using a solid phase RIA. Treatment of dairy cows with progesterone during days 5 to 12 post insemination had no significant effect on the concentration rate of first or second service. Cows treated with progesterone had significantly higher progesterone concentration in milk and plasma than the control group. Cows which were confirmed pregnant on day 50 post insemination had significantly higher milk and plasma progesterone in the first 12 days post insemination.
