Larvae of the spionid polychaete Paraprionospio sp. (form B) found in the plankton from Omura Bay [Japan]

Larval stages of the spionid polychaete Paraprionospio sp. (form B) are described based on specimens obtained in the plankton from Omura Bay. As the number of segments increases, adult characteristics such as palps, branchiae, parapodial lamellae and four types of adult setae appear progressively. Settlement was observed in a 37-segmented larva with a length of 4.37 mm, which had cast off its larval setae. Morphological characteristics and the size at settlement are similar to Paraprionospio sp. (form A), but pigmentation on the lateral lips are not found in form B larvae
