The role of pigs' crossing ability in the improvement of pig products (pork) quality is explained. To study pigs' crossing abilities, the predominant pig breed in Latvia - the Latvian White - and the Estonian bacon breed were used as mother breeds for crossing. As father breeds Pietrain and German Landrass boars were chosen. The carcass quality of the crosses has been analysed and compared with that of the pure breeds - Latvian White and Landrass. The results of the analysis are presented and discussed. It is pointed out that cross genetic potential has been increased by increasing total protein, lysine and vitamins A, D, E content in concentrated feeds.
