[The spread of dental diseases in dogs of different breeds]

Oral cavity and dental examinations performed on 207 dogs demonstrated the following disease condition: periodontitis (73%), dental trauma (20%), anodontia and attrition (19%), developmental of teeth and orthodontic defects (15%), staining (16%), enamel defects (9%), neoplasma (6%), jaw trauma (2%) and caries (1%). Periodontitis was staged. In small breed dogs III and IV stages predominated, but in large breeds I and II stages predominated. Only 15% of owners performed dental prophylaxis at home. Feeding survey showed that 21% of dogs were fed commercial dog food, 41% - homecooked diets, and 38% - combination of commercial and homecooked diets.
