Number and areas of rural farms

As the result of the land reform the number and areas of rural farms have changed radically. On January 1, 1997 95 per cent of farm lands are in the possession and use of physical persons, and only 5 per cent of farm lands are used by specialized state fams and statute companies. The farm areas of juridical persons slightly exceeds 300 ha on the average, but the average size of the farms of physical persons according to the total area is 13,8 ha. The smallest percentage of peasant farms from the total number of individual farms and the smallest size of farms may be observed in Latgale region.
