Characterization of triticale under Latvia's agroecological conditions

Triticale - the newest cereal crop in Latvia is insufficiently investigated. The presented research compares 67 varieties of triticale from different countries. Octoploid and tetraploid varieties have the longest period to maturity and low yielding, but these accessions have higher protein content. Hexaploid varieties developed quite well and are able to give high yields. Cultivars originating from Belarus, Poland and Sweden are more suitable for growing under Latvian conditions in comparison with other varieties.
