[Weed control in flax under the conditions of Eastern Latvia]

To increase flax production in Latvia the problem of effective weed control in flax has been studied. As agrotechnical means alone are not effective enough, the necessity of chemical weed control has been stated. For that purpose new herbicides are required. At Vilani Experiment Selection Station trials have been carried out to establish the effect of new herbicides in the control of dicotyledonous and cereal weeds. It has been found out that application of the tested herbicides decreases the weediness of flax fields. The highest effect can be obtained if at optimal soil tillage the herbicides are applied during the flax vegetation period
