Kulikauskas, L. (Lithuanian Institute of Horticulture and Vegetable Growing, Babtai (Lithuania))
The aim of the trials conducted at the Lithuanian Institute of Horticulture in the periods of 1993-94 and 1994-1995 was to find the proper herbicides for weed control in cherry orchards without damaging cherry trees. During the years of trials the places of herbicide spraying were changed every year (both in the first and the 4th treatment). Simazin+Lontrel 300 (2 kg/ha and 0.5 kg/ha respectively) decreased the total amount of weeds at the end of plant vegetation period. Lontrel 300 was especially effective in the control of Taraxacum officinale L. Raundup applied at the end of vegetation also decreased the total amount of weeds including Agropyron repens P.B. In Lithuania in cherry orchards Raundup is applied at the rate of 1.1-1.44 kg/ha. It must be sprayed in the strips under cherry-trees twice over the period of vegetation
