[Nonsynchronized pollination of the corn colos of Zea mays L. impacting on the grain yield] | Polinizacion asincronica de los jilotes superior e inferior de maiz (Zea mays L.) y su efecto sobre el rendimiento de grano y sus componentes.Montecillo, Mex. (Mexico)

The objective of this research was to study the effect of different levels of synchrony among the pollination date of the upper and lower earshoots, in a prolific maize (Zea mays L.) variety, on grain yield and its components, in Tecamac, Mexico with the varietal hybrid HV-Jornalero 2, sown 37500 plants hasup-1. Based on comparative analysis of 8 treatments, it was observed that under controllated pollination, a difference of two or more days on the pollination date favoring the upper earshoot, increased kernel number in this, but gradually decreased kernel number in the lower ear, without affecting significatively the kernel number per plant, although the tendency observed was decreasing. In open pollination treatment, the kernel number of the upper ear was affected negatively for the controlled pollination treatments.

El objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar el efecto de diferentes niveles de asincronia en la polinizacion entre el jilote superior e inferior, sobre el rendimiento de grano y sus componentes en plantas prolificas de maiz (Zea mays L.), en Tecamac, Mex., utilizando el hibrido varietal HV-Jornalero 2, sembrado a una densidad de 37500 plantas hasup-1. Con base en el analisis comparativo de 8 tratamientos, se encontro que bajo polinizacion controlada, la asincronia de 2 dias o mas a favor de la polinizacion del jilote superior aumento el numero de granos en la mazorca inferior, sin afectar significativamente el numero de granos por planta. En polinizacion libre el numero de granos en la mazorca superior fue afectado negativamente por los tratamientos de polinizacion controlada.
