Preservation of Industrial Tree Plantation Species (ITPS)
1997
Anon.
Three ITPS [Industrial Tree Plantation Species], namely: yemane (Gmelina arborea), bagras (Eucalyptus deglupta) and alnus (Alnus sp.) were treated by pressure and non-pressure processes using copper-chrome-arsinate (CCA) preservative at 5.0, 6.5 and 8.0 percent concentration levels. Borax boric acid (BB) was applied at 5.0 percent level. Using CCA, the heartwood of yemane, Bagras and alnus in green condition had an average retention value of 16 kg/cu.m., while the sapwood, 25 kg/cu.m. For dry specimens, the heart wood had an average retention of 23 kg/cu.m. compared to the 28 kg/cu.m. in the sapwood. The sapwood of dry specimens treated with borax-boric had an average retention value of 51.3 kg/cu.m. While the heart wood had 42.75 kg/cu.m. For green specimens, the sapwood had an average retention value of 21.49 kg/cu.m., and the heartwood, 15.71 kg/cu.m. The full-cell pressure treatment showed that the three species are easy to treat as seen in the retention values of 512 kg/cu.m. for yemane, 277.78 kg/cu.m for bagras and 3127.9 kg/cu.m for alnus
