Artificial coloring of wood for marquetry

The dyeing process for gubas (Endospermum peltatum) veneer sheets to be used for marquetry was studied. Result showed 2 per cent salt, 0.8 per cent fixer and 1 per cent acetic acid. For 2-mm dried veneer sheets, the dyeing process involves 2 hours boiling in the same mixture of chemicals per liter of water. Both dyeing processes showed high fading resistance in artificially colored veneers exposed to sunlight for drying to the desired moisture content. The dyed veneer sheets also exhibited high resistance to bleeding when resoaked in water for 12 hours. The same was observed during the lamination of the dyed veneer sheets into stocks
