A study was conducted to determine the effect of different inoculum densities of the root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne graminicola) on upland rice cv UPLRi 5 and to evaluate the reactions of upland rice cultivars/lines to the nematode. Meloidogyne graminicola at various initial inoculum densities reduced the number of tillers, plant height, herbage, root and grain weights of rice cultivars (UPLRi 5) compared to the uninoculated control. Based on grain weight, yield reduction ranged from 9.50-31.75 percent. The number of galls and eggs produced were significantly different among the treatments. Among the 51 cultivars/lines evaluated, three upland rice lines (IR62761-20, IR60080-48 and IRAT 610) were found moderately resistant to the nematode based on the gall index
