Morpho-anatomical investigation of Gamat, Pachyrhizus erosus variety Vendivil 1997 obtained from the hilly portion of Bagong Bayan, Panganiban, Catanduanes [Philippines] was undertaken to describe the morphological character of gamat with respect to its root, stem, leaf, flower, and fruit and to identify and analyze the anatomical characteristics of its roots, stem and leaf tissues. A new variety of yam bean is indigenous in Catanduanes growing and distributed on vegetated, hilly and mountainous areas in the province was identified and described. This study is deemed useful to provide biology teachers and students, plant and crop specialist, and agriculturists the basic information on morphological and anatomical characters of gamat and other indigenous related species which could serve as basis for the classification and identification of more edible plants indigenous in a certain locality and as a result may encourage more people to recognize and realize the economic value of gamat. Further study on the physio-anatomy of the flower, and fruit of gamat for the eating quality of the root crop and biology and nutritive value of the plant gamat is recommended. Comprehensive germplasm collection to select varieties with superior yield, root characteristic, nutritive value and agronomic characteristics, and research on the processing of tubers are also recommended
