The silos at Faisalabad (Unit 6) are not performing as efficiently as it was expected because of higher coefficient of friction between the grain loading/unloading hopper walls and the grain. The silos walls are also quite rough which retain quite a bit grain stored. The fumigation of silos is not only difficult but also ineffective due to leakage of phosphine through inlet/outlet spouts, air vent, leaky roof, etc. Grain conveyors and the chutes which have worn out very rapidly should have been provided with some abrasion-resistant plastic liners. The walls od silos and loading/unloading hoppers should be precisely finished at an angle of 45 Centigrade to improve their working. It is highly recommended that the grain should be cleaned before feeding to the system. This is utmost important to save and extend the life of this installation which has costed millions of dollars to the nation.
