Agroforestry and reforestation (mixed) forest were significantly more favorable for bulk density, particle density and porosity of soil than in the yemane and buri plantations. No significant differences among land uses were observed in terms of N content, available P and exchangeable K. Generally, runoff recorded under the yemane plantation (2.90 mm) was significantly higher than those collected in the buri plantation (2.49 mm), agroforestry (alley cropping) system (1.75 mm) and reforestation (mixed) forest (2.66 mm). Sediment yield followed the same trend in which the volume of sediments collected was significantly higher in the yemane plantation and the lowest in the agroforestry system. Collectively, the results of the investigation showed the comparative advantage of alley cropping system over the pure plantations. These conditions suggest that agroforestry (alley cropping) system of farming reduces the dangers from erosion in watersheds and hilly areas. Developed predictive equations using multiple linear regression analysis for surface runoff and sediment yield as a function of rainfall depth, rainfall duration and rainfall intensity for the different land uses were adopted. Surface runoff and sediment yield also showed high correlation with each other
