Effect of cultivar and method of cultivation on yield of leeks harvested in autumn and after overwintering in the field

The effect of cultivation method on overwintering in field conditions of nine leek cultivars as well as effect on dry matter, total sugars, reducing sugars, and vitamin C were investigated. In spring season the marketable yield of leeks amounted about 50 of that obtained in the autumn in treatment with flat cultivation, and in case of furrow cultivation increased to 64.5. During the storage of plants in the field there was observed decline of dry matter, total sugars and increment of reducing sugar level. The vitamin C content remains in similar level in frost resistant cultivars in autumn, and in spring after overwintering
