Effect of two types of soil and organic matter content on the growth of Atriplex halimus in a saline medium

The effect of two types of soil (sandy and sandy-clay-loam) and 5 salinity levels (1, 5, 10, 15 and 20 dS/m), of the supply of different doses of peat to a sandy soil irrigated with two salinity levels (10 and 20 dS/m) on the emergence of Atriplex halimus was studied. The establishment of Atriplex halimus plants is definitely better in a clay soil than in a sandy one. Equally so, the supply of peat to a sandy soil considerably improves crop emergence. Growth stimulation in the clay soil and in the sand-peat mixing is directly related to their capacity to reduce salt accumulation in the soil solution.
