The dynamics of dry matter accumulation in grain studied in ten Romania winter wheat (Triticum aestivum) cultivars sown in field conditions in Fundulea (cambic chernozeom)in October, 1994. Four repetitions, nine sampling date and five ears/sample were used. The thermal time elapsed from anthesis was used as independent variable (X). The determination coefficients of calculated logistic regressions varied from 0.987 to 0.999. The method of DARROCH and BAKER (1990) for interpretation of the logistic regressions was used calculate the duration of grain filling [T = (B+2.944)/4] and average rate of grain filling [R = (C*W)/4]. Dry matter accumulation in grain varied from 51.19 in "Dropia" cultivar to 37.23 mg DM/grain in "Fundulea 133' cultivar, the longest grain filling was noticed for "F 308 " (770.8 degree C/day) and the shortest (516.4 degree C/day) was noticed for "F29 K4-22". The average grain filling rate ranged from 0.099 in "Fundulea" 133" to 0.136 mg/degree C/day in "Rapid". Grain weight was significantly correlated with grain filling rate and not with grain duration. The negative correlation between grain filling rate and duration was not significant, suggesting that high values of two traits can be combined by breeding.
