Effect of salinity and resicular arbusculer mycorrhizal fugi on growth and symbiotic properties of faba bean (V. faba) [Sudan]
1996
Ahmed, A.E.
Pot experiment were carried out to investigate the effect of salinity and inoculation with VAM and/or Rhizobium on growth and symbiotic properties of four faba bean cultivars. Salinity significantly reduced fresh and dry weights of shoot, root, nodules, pods, number of pods and nodules, total nitrogen content and nitrogen fixation. Inoculation with Rhizobium and/or with VAM significantly increased all measured parameters in normal and in saline conditions. Superphosphate fertilization significantly increased nodulation, fresh and dry matter yields. VAM inoculation signifcantly increased the mycorrhizal infection whereas, high doses of superphosphate significantly reduced it. These results indicated that Rhizobium and mycorrhizae could be used as biological fertilizer and could be used to reduce the harmful effect of salinity. The regression models were generated for data and a negative relationship between the salinity and nodules number, whereas the relationship between nodules number and plant weight was positive
